Loss

On the 12th June my Father, Michael John Hollyfield passed away. He was 82 years old.

His Funeral was on the 30th June and we scattered his ashes into the sea on 2nd July.

It’s been a time of grieving and remembering, and honoring the man that Dad was.

Dad has been one of the biggest influences in my life as an artist.

He was the one whose creative interests encouraged my own step into painting.

He bought me my first oils, and water colours, and books. He used to take me to exhibitions in London, and was forever driving me and my awkward sized paintings to school or art school.

I always sought his approval on my work, whether he thought it was good enough. He would never praise me without reason.

Words cannot really express the depth of his support towards my painting, or to me as his child.

It’s a big loss to my family and I that he is no longer with us, and the grieving process has somewhat over shadowed the painting process for the time being.
